'Gifting Table' Sentencing Pushed Back to Aug. 13

Guilford residents Jill Platt and Donna Bello could be put away for 14 years for conspiracy to defraud the IRS.

Monday's sentencing hearing for Guilford residents Jill Platt and Donna Bello, who have been convicted on conspiracy to defraud the IRS, amongst other charges, will be continued on Aug. 13, the Shoreline Times reports.

Platt and Bello ran a gifting table scheme in which new members would join a table by paying a tax-free donation of $5,000 to a more senior partner. The newest members would then climb the table ladder until they made $40,000, according to the Shoreline Times.

The Times reports that the women's fraud resulted in around $840,000 in lost tax income.
