Fresh Paint Fumes May Have Set Off Fire Alarm At Madison Beach Hotel

Madison fire and police officials respond to alarm around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

The Madison Police Department and responded to a report of an automatic fire alarm at Madison Beach Hotel around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police officials said it was a false alarm, likely set off by fresh paint fumes.

The hotel is currently in the final stages of a construction process that started shortly after the old hotel was torn down in October 2009. The hotel does not have a permanent certificate of occupancy yet, but town officials said it was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for two weddings last weekend. That temporary certificate of occupancy expired Sunday, town officials said.

Hotel officials have said they have events booked every weekend through the summer and early fall. The hotel was originally accepting reservations for overnight stays during August, but people who made those reservations were recently advised by the hotel to make other arrangements or to reschedule for a later date.
