Clinton Resident Dies In Madison Accident

One-vehicle accident in North Madison Tuesday evening shuts down Route 79 for about four hours.

A 54-year-old Clinton man has died following a one-car acicdent on Durham Road/Route 79 Tuesday evening.

Madison Police say they responded to the accident at about 5:38 pm on Durham Road, north of County Road.

"The vehicle was traveling northbound on Durham Road when, for an unknown reason, it left the travel portion of the roadway and struck a guard rail prior to coming to rest on its side in the northbound lane of Durham Road," police said in a prepared statement. "Emergency service units arrived on the scene and the operator was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital. The operator was later pronounced dead at the hospital."

Madison Police identified the victim as Mark Vertefeuille, 54, of Clinton. Durham Road was shut down for approximately four hours while police investigated the accident.

No one else was injured in the accident.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Madison Police Department Accident Investigation Unit.
