Branford Bank Robbed Wednesday Afternoon

Police Looking for Suspect Following Clues of 'Item Left Behind'

At 2:04 p.m. today Branford Police officers responded to 445 W. Main St., , on the report of a burglary.

Branford Police Captain Geoffrey Morgan stated that the suspect approached the teller and made demands. No weapon was presented. The suspect then left what Morgan called an "item" and fled on foot in a southwesterly direction with an undetermined amount of money.

Morgan would not confirm if the item was or was not a potential explosive device.

Police have video surveillance of the incident and are reviewing it. They have reported the suspect to be a white male, 5-feet, six-inches tall, wearing a white button-down, collared, long-sleeve shirt with jeans and work boots. The suspect is also reported wearing a baseball hat with a dark emblem on the front.

Morgan stated that the police canine unit was called in to follow the possible scent on the item the suspect left behind. Morgan stated that the scent led police to a parking space in the south western part of the parking lot or possibly an adjacent parking lot. Police then determined that the suspect could have fled by vehicle.

The Connecticut State Police are en-route to the scene.

Police have blocked the entrance and exit to the bank at this time and are checking all who enter or exit the parking lot.
