Baby Who Fell From Second Floor Window Appears To Be Recovering, In Critical Condition

Baby fell from second story window on Devonshire Lane onto a concrete patio around 12:41 p.m. Friday, emergency responders say.

A relative of the baby who fell from a second floor window Friday evening on Devonshire Lane says the baby is still in the hospital, and is in critical condition, but that the family and doctors are hopeful at this point that he will recover.

The 14-month-old baby suffered a broken shoulder, and a lacerated liver, but the doctors at this point expect the liver to grow back. There does not appear to be swelling of the brain at this time, the family member said. The baby was being weaned off the respirator on Saturday, the family member said.

The family member said the parents of the baby are grateful for help of the emergency responders, for the expressions of support they have received, and are asking for everyone's thoughts and prayers as the baby continues his recovery. The family member said that the caretaker who was home at the time is receiving counseling and support from experts at the hospital.

North Madison Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Don MacMillan said Saturday evening that he did not respond to the incident, but had reviewed reports of it. He said initial reports indicate that the call was dispatched around 12:41 p.m. Friday. He said the report he reviewed said that the child fell out of a second story window onto a concrete patio below. He said the baby was transported to the hospital by emergency personnel.
