Patch's Poll: How Tan Is Too Tan?

A case in Nutley, N.J., in which a mom is accused of taking her 6-year-old to a tanning salon has made us wonder. Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments (and please, watch the video).

The mom in Nutley, N.J., who is accused of tanning her young child at a local salon to the point of causing a sunburn says the kid was merely waiting for her while she tanned.

Whatever actually happened, the woman has become an Internet sensation because of the extent that she has "tanned" (or oranged) herself.

In Connecticut, a bill failed in the General Assembly this session to require teenagers to get parental permission to tan.

What do you think? Do you tan? Is there such a thing as too tan? How many times have you watched that mom on YouTube? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.

Since the ozone level has thinned, there is no such thing as a safe tan. In fact, using tanning beds should make you ineligible for health insurance policies regarding skin cancers and melanomas. This woman is negligent and suicidal, but she doesn't know it. I don't envy her when she gets her diagnoses. Tanning beds ought to be outlawed. They serve no good purpose.

This woman is no different than an enorexic who looks in the mirror and see a fat person staring back at them. This woman probably looks in the mirror and the image she sees is someone who needs to be more tan in order to be more attractive. That kind of illness would prompt her to want to make her daughter look as good as she thinks she looks. Someone needs to intervene for her safety and the safety of her daughter.

She's ORANGE for cryin' out loud! Her skin appears to have the same texture as beef jerky. I have heard of people becoming 'addicted to tanning' but this is just way over the line.

At some point the establishment needs to take responsibility and say enough is enough just like a bar has to stop serving someone getting drunk.
