Off Leash Dog Area on Bauer Park

It was recently bought to my attention that there is discussion about allowing off leash roaming of dogs on Bauer Park. I hope this does not become a reality for several reasons. I am a life long dog owner, i worked at a Vet hospital in my teens and have seen many very sad situations. I have had two dogs hit by cars when they escaped from the yard when I was a youngster. As well behaved as people think their dogs are, there is always that fraction of a second you are not paying attention (interesting conversation with fellow dog owner, a text from your child, checking facebook) when your pet can run into traffic, or wander across the road to the school. All of us who are dog owners have this fantasy that everyone loves dogs, well there are many kids who are afraid of dogs. We recently helped a neighborhood family look for their dog who got loose and ran onto the park property. We searched for hours and as darkness crept in we worried. We are a direct neighbor to the park anc have seen coyote, raccoons, fisher cats etc wandering. We worried that that dog would not make it through the night. Luckily he was found on one of the neighboring streets that also border RT79. Oa personal note, i have a dog and we have an invisible fence which keeps my dog safe and in our yard , however it does not keep other dogs out. I really dont want the occasional unleashed dog coming into our yard, impinging on my dogs privacy. If there is to be an off leash area on the park, it needs to be fenced in! I hope that Town Official's keep these perspectives in mind. I would imagine if the town provides an off leash venue, they would have some liability to damaged property including cars that hit a stray dog using the town sponsored park, often overlooked is the responsibility pet owners have for property damage.
