Obituary: Frank Ziobro

Frank Ziobro, of Madison and formerly of Fort Lee, N.J., died on May 18, 2014, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1920, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of John and Mary (Pencak) Ziobro.

Mr. Ziobro was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant. He was a mess sergeant with Service Battery, 659th Field Artillery Battalion. Following his military service, he was employed as a meat cutter.

Mr. Ziobro was a member of the VFW, enjoyed gardening, actively participated in his parish, and was a devoted Catholic.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly Knowles and her husband, James, of Madison and Richard Gauzza and his wife, Tara Lee, of North Port, Fla.; his brother, Edward Ziobro; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Frank, and Isaiah; 10 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Melanie Gauzza; and siblings, Stanley, Veronica, and Gizela.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday. May 23, at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy St., Madison. Burial with military honors will follow in Eight Mile River Cemetery, Lyme.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW or Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
