Friends of Hammonasset head to Friends of CT State Parks Day in Hartford

Friends of Hammonasset representatives and Ranger Russ Miller met In Hartford today to help kick off the Centennial Celebration of Connecticut State Parks and participate at Friends of Connecticut State Parks Day at the Legislative Office Building.  This day was an opportunity for the groups to showcase their Parks and Forests, and highlight the work done by the groups, for the decision makers in Hartford.    Friends of Hammonasset is one of 22 volunteers organizations that work in partnership with the DEEP to support Connecticut’s state parks, forests and conservation areas collectively known as Friends of Ct State Parks.     http://www.friendsctstateparks.org/FCSP/Welcome.html 

Of special importance this year is the fact the the Connecticut State Park System is celebrating it’s Centennial!   State Legislators have been challenged by Connecticut Forest and Park Association to adopt a Park.  The goal of these efforts is raise awareness of the economic, recreational and educational importance of the Parks for Connecticut residents and visotors.   This is very important in these times of tight budgets and the Centennial Year of the State Park system is the natural time for this emphasis.  We are proud to announce that Represenative Noreen Kokoruda and Senator Ed Meyer have stepped up and adopted Hammonasset.    We are hoping to have Representatives and Senators from all over the state join them and do the same. http://www.ctwoodlands.org/node/834
