Enthusiastic Crowd attends the first Schumann Series Presentation

A lively crowd gathered to hear Ranger Russ give an animated presentation of the Reptiles of CT - with live displays!

A series of fun and educational presentations are scheduled for Fridays in August at 7PM outside Meigs Point Nature Center.  A crowd of more than 150 attended the first presentation on August 3.  Coming out on a steamy summer eve from near and far - the campground and Rhode Island and beyond - all were treated to a lively and entertaining Reptile Show by Nature Center Director Ranger Russ Miller.

Did you know that Connecticut is home to a lizard or that 8 foot leatherback sea turtles cruise past the jetties during migration? Fascinating stuff! Do you know what a stink pot or a racer is?  If you weren't there last night, Come find out!  The Nature Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 - 5.  Check out the schedule to what programs run at the Nature Center on a regualr basis.

For another special show, come to next Friday’s show.   Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will be visiting with LIVE exotic animals from the zoo’s collection.   The other shows will be:

August 17: Spear throwing. A demonstration and hands-on class of the atlatl - the precursor to the bow & arrow.  Presented by Gary Nolf from the CT Office of Archeology

August 24: Our frequent partners - Todd and Christine from A PLace Called Hope Raptor Rescue - will be bringing owls and other birds of prey.

We also wish to extend a thank you and warm welcome to the new sponsor of our series - Citizens Bank.   They will be at each presentation will a raffle and table of treats.
