We have a friend from Boston who says every year, "Fawth of July, summah's ovah." NO! I can't hear you.....la la la la la la la with my ears covered. He's not a negative guy by any means. He's a guy who went to West Point and had to get back to military life just after the fourth. So in his case it was pretty real.
People have said this for as long as I can remember. Yes. Summer is fleeting but I'm happy to make the most of it. Our summer days are filled with so much to do. so many people to see and lots of places to go that we have to fit in the time to relax and enjoy the luxury of our surroundings.
I love our summers on the cape and great memories of vacations on the vineyard or Nantucket visiting friends. Still, coming home is a pleasure...another breath of fresh air. It's lovely to get away but it's nice to come home.
When we come home from any beautiful beach vacation, our kids are always the first to say how lucky we are to come home to a place where people vacation. They were just trying to imagine living somewhere else...with no access to beaches...it's hard for us to imagine.
This was a big discussion before we married...I know business opportunities come up all over the world. I'm open to the adventure...but I admitted it wouldn't be so easy for me to be away from salt water life. Griff calls me his salt water bride. It's true.
Just knowing the beach is there makes me happy. It's a place for fabulous family times, relaxing quiet times and truly healing times. I'm grateful to call this beach town home.
