Madison Rugby Topples Undefeated Southington

Coach Jay Rubino described Madison v Southington rugby match as a real David and Goliath story.

While Southington Rugby has been playing outside competition for only two years, Rubino said they have some tough and seasoned players on their team, making them formidable competition.

“The Southington team has some really tough and talented players some include
 off-season football players and wrestlers.  Mad Rugby is a very young team with some players this being their first season of rugby. Yet the guys gave 110% and pulled off an incredible victory with the final score 29 to 27”. 

For the first time ever Madison will be hosting the State
Rugby Tournament at the Surf Club. Competition begins at 9am on Sunday, May 27, and will be played simultaneously on three different fields.  Admission is free, but there is a $10 fee for parking for those who do not have their beach pass.

22 Teams plus 4 women’s teams will be competing including the nationally ranked Fairfield and Greenwich teams.  After only 3 years in existence Madison will be entering the competition ranking number 1 in their division.
