Scranton Library Teen Department Poetry Contest

April is National Poetry Month, and the Teen Department is celebrating with a poetry contest for Madison students in grades 5-12. Original poems should be submitted via email to Teen Librarian Katie Fargo at fargok@madisonct.org by 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 30 with a subject line like this: Teen Poetry Contest, First Name, Last Name, Grade.

Information & Guidelines:

  • poems can by in any style and should be no longer than one page
  • poems must be original works by the person submitting them
  • all poems will be kept by the library to create a book
  • poems must be suitable for a general audience(no profanity or vulgarity)
  • by submitting a poem you agree to let the Scranton Library use your poem in the poetry book and on our website and social media outlets
  • prizes will be awarded for two levels: grades 5-8 & grades 9-12. Winners will be notified by email.
  • participants may submit up to 5 original poems
