Scranton Library has several options for teens to volunteer this summer. Reading Buddies is a reading enrichment program pairing teenagers with children in grades K-3 to read together, find books and play games. Teens & Tech is a joint program with Madison Youth and Family Services and pairs teenagers with senior citizens to help them navigate technology. Mutt-i-grees is a joint program with the Children’s Department and a collaboration with the Mutt-i-grees organization with the goal to raise awareness about shelter animals. Activities include baking dog biscuits and making blankets for animal shelters, organizing collection drives for shelters and helping with a story time program for children. The Teen Department also offers shelving as a volunteer opportunity. Teens interested in volunteering should submit applications by June 21 to be considered for summer 2013. Applications may be found at the teen desk at the library or online at www.scrantonlibrary.org/teens. Questions should be directed to Katie Fargo, Teen Services Librarian, at 203-245-7365 or fargok@madisonct.org.
