MADE Stronger – Have you taken the Challenge??

This past Monday, February 17th, was the official start of the MADE Stronger Challenge. If you have been reading my blog for the last few of weeks you will know what this is all about.  For those of you who are experiencing my blog for the first time, let me tell you what this is all about!

M.A.D.E. in Madison (M.A.D.E.) is excited to be hosting the 6th annual Madison health and wellness challenge, MADE Stronger. This six-week healthy living challenge runs from February 17 – March 30, 2014. Throughout the event, MADE Stronger participants will be challenged to set and attain goals that improve their mind, body, heart, soul and village.  For more information check out the website http://www.madestronger.org and register to participate in the challenge.

So my first week has been pretty good.  I have increased exercise – yes shoveling snow counts towards exercising!  But I also went on a nice walk with my husband and daughter.  This may count for exercise and family time – BONUS!!!  Also on the plus side - my family had more dinners together.   On the negative side I did not do as well on healthy eating, but I blame my husband and kids for the wonderful truffles that I got for Valentine’s Day.  I had to eat them or it would have been rude – right?

If you are having trouble with your goals, check out the MADE Stronger Calendar with events that will help you attain wellness. Next week there are several yoga classes for all ages!  Just follow this link to the calendar http://www.madestronger.org/calendar.php

Also the Library is hosting a yoga series for teens starting Friday at 4:00pm.  It will run for four consecutive Fridays.  It’s free and open to students grades 6-12.  You can sign up at http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsRegister.cfm?SiteID=8965&BranchID=1000000931&Branch=Scranton%20Memorial%20Library&EventID=194967&CameFrom=Calendar

Speaking of the Library, I will remind you that there is a Winter Wonder Ball at the Woodwinds in Branford which will benefit the Scranton Library.  It will be held on March 1, 2014.  Tickets are $125.00 per person.  There will be Open Bar, a live Band, Silent and Live auction.  I know this may be a bit much for some people – but think of it as an extension of your Valentine’s celebration – at least that is what I told my husband.  If you want to attend just go to the website and get a ticket.  http://winterwonderball.celebrations.com/libraryball2014

The second community event can be done at home.  Please help the Board of Selectmen by voting for the new name of the park which was previously named Constitution Park, but before that was known as the Griswold Airport.  If you have been living under a rock, not read the papers or the Patch, I will give you some background.  The Board of Selectmen chose to name the park Constitution Park and the people of Madison were not happy.  So we decided to have an Eagle Scout candidate help with a survey of names from the community.  At the last Board of Selectmen meeting we took that list and narrowed it to three possibilities.  Now the people of Madison get to choose the name from those three. Just follow the link to the Madison home page http://www.madisonct.org/i3/ click on the button that says name the park and choose from one of the three names.

Since I was elected, this has probably been the number one issue that has been brought up to me from the people of Madison.  So get involved and help resolve this issue once and for all!!  Just think you could help Madison be MADE Stronger!
