Wonderful Windows!

Check out how you can have wonderful window treatments on a budget! j

Last week we looked at custom window treatments.  This week I wanted to address window treatments for those that are on a tighter budget.  There are many things to consider when deciding on window treatments! I will try and address some major areas to look at but remember - each window is different so take your time in your decision making.  Some people hire me to consult on the correct ready made window treatment so that they don't make any of those decorating mistakes.

First,  look at the width of your window!!  If you have a really wide window the best ready made treatments to consider are panels. These also look well on smaller windows. Do not put ready made swags and jabots on wide windows - they just won't look correct.  Second, make sure you mount your rods correctly!!! This is so important! Do NOT mount your rods on the window molding - the rod should be mounted about 4" to each side of the trim and 4" above the window if possible - remember every window is different - these are your goals.  The panels should hang on either side and "break" on the floor. It's better to have them with a little extra length!  Third, fabric choice - make sure it is not a stiff fabric and, most importantly, that your colors work in your room!! If you look at the picture these basic panels have been embellished at home to give them a more custom type look. Please note that the drapes should hang more to the sides of the window instead of covering most of it!

Ok - so do you think you are ready to tackle this on your own? Have fun and don't forget that if you get stuck you can call and get help! j
