A New Year, A New You! Register for Courses Now at Gateway Community College

Registration continues at Gateway Community College through January 24. If you’d like to begin work toward an Associate’s Degree or certificate program, if you want to jumpstart your career or you have always wanted to take up photography or learn how to create the cuisine of Provence and the French Riviera, opportunities abound at GCC.

The Registrar’s daily registration hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The hours are extended through 7 p.m. on January 3, 7, 9, 14 and 16. The last extended registration day before classes begin is on January 23 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Senior citizens interested in taking credit courses at GCC  can register from 10 a.m. to 12pm noon on January 24. The spring semester begins January 25. On-line registration, which began November 1 for continuing students, runs through January 24.

GCC’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division offers an array of courses as well. Those interested in starting a new career will find many options at Gateway. They include a nine-course, non-credit Railroad Electronics Technician Certificate program. Launched in November 2011, the program provides training for highly skilled technician positions in the railroad industry.  GCC also offers courses that provide training for careers for a green economy such as Solar Fundamentals in its Center for a Sustainable Future. The Precision Manufacturing Certificate provides 174 hours of classroom and lab training in high-demand, 21st century skills such as Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) operation.

Courses in real estate, bookkeeping, computer networking and small engine repair are available, as are classes in customer service communication and sales and marketing. Those wishing to pursue a Health and Wellness Career Certificate may be interested in the Pharmacy Technician Training Program and the Patient Navigator Program.

Personal enrichment courses include a new course in Yoga Nidra and courses in the culinary arts, conversational Spanish and basic boating. A voice-over class taught by voice-over specialist and former radio personality Paula Lin is back by popular demand.

Registration for non-credit classes is available until the day the class actually commences (provided there are still seats open). Unlike traditional for-credit courses, non-credit courses run at various times throughout the semester.
