Tent is Up, Preparations Underway for Grave House Fundraiser Saturday

Pig Roast, Silent Auction and Live Blues Band Featured at Grave House Event

A large tent now graces the backyard at the Deacon John Grave House in anticipation of the gala fundraiser to be held Saturday, October 6 to benefit the 17th century house.

Dozens of items are ready for the silent auction that will be the centerpiece of the evening, which features a pig roast and live blues band, Shaka and the Soulshakers, following dinner.

The event is sponsored by Guilford Savings Bank.

The event carries on a tradition at the Grave House, which holds a major fundraiser every five years for capital improvements and operating expenses for the House, built in 1685. This year's project is the roof, which is infested with lichens and mold and in dire need of replacement.

The silent auction will include a range of items and services from local companies. A partial list of businesses that have contributed gift certificates includes Attitude Plus, The Frame Shop, Friends & Co., Jolie Boutique, Madison Beach Club, Maggie’s of Madison, Malone’s, the Nosey Goose, Petrillo’s Pizza Pub and Grill, Salon de Oasis, Two Ems, Inc., Vera Wolf, and Village Pizza.

The Audubon Shop -- a private bird-walk for 10 people.

Bradley and Wall -- gift card.

Virginia Vancil -- two hours of private SAT and ACT tutoring and materials.

Ken Davies -- a signed print and book.

The Mad Gourmet of Guilford --  two gift cards.

Dede Boyd -- classic brass cookware.

Former Grave Foundation president Cy Wastcoat -- two antique children's chairs and a handmade bedspread.

Bella Perlina -- coral, aquamarine, silver and crystal necklace.
