The Shoreline Chorale -- Abraham, Martin, and John: Rejoicing in Hope

“The Shoreline’s Own” Shoreline Chorale will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War’s battle of Gettysburg, the 50th anniversary of MLKs “I Have a Dream” speech, and the assassination of JFK in a concert entitled “Abraham, Martin, and John: Rejoicing in Hope”.
Groups of songs include sets from the eras of Abraham Lincoln (the Civil War), Martin Luther King (”I Have a Dream” speech), and John F. Kennedy (assassination).  From Abraham’s era, selections include “The Blue and the Grey” arranged by chorale member Charles Houlihan, and “Dirge” which was sung before Lincoln delivered The Gettysburg Address.  From Martin’s era, selections include “MLK” and “Make Them Hear You”.  From John’s era, selections include “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye” and "Common Link", the latter based on text of a JFK speech.
The Shoreliners Quintet will perform "Goober Peas” arranged by chorale member Charles Houlihan, a song about peanuts which were sometimes the only food for Confederate soldiers.
Music Director Rachael Allen also serves as director of choral music at Westbrook High School, and accompanist Joyce Baxter also serves as Music Director at the Clinton Congregational Church.  The concert program will include several selections by the 16 member Westbrook High School Chamber Choir.  A violin duet will perform as guest instrumentalists.
