Madison Historical Society's Lee Lecture Series

MADISON HISTORICAL SOCIETY CONTINUES LEE LECTURE SERIES MARCH 16

The Madison Historical Society will present the third in its series of Frederick Lee Lectures on Sunday, March 16 at 4 pm at Memorial Town Hall, 8 Meetinghouse Lane in Madison.  The subject of this year's lecture series is "Local Roots:  An Exploration of the Past, Present, and Future of Shoreline Agriculture."  The featured presenter on March 16 will be Stephanie Lesnik of Field House Farm.  She will present a program entitled "Hands on Harvests:  A Heritage Property Yields Fields of Plenty."    Utilizing the grounds of her restored 1720 farmhouse, Stephanie Lesnik has created a sustainable farm operation consisting of a produce garden and a large inventory of meat-producing creatures. Practicing humane and responsible farming and animal care practices and offering USDA processed poultry and pork products, she maintains a Farmer's Pledge status with the Northeast Organic Farming Association.  The mission at Field House Farm includes education of the community regarding their food sources, as well as accountability regarding how food, animals, and the environment are treated.  Lesnik offers a CSA and a year-round schedule of programs for both children and adults, teaching the important differences found in local and naturally raised products and advocating for being an active participant in processing and harvesting one's food.
Suggested donation for the lecture on March 16 is $5 ($4 for Madison Historical Society members) and $2 for children ages 10 to 18.  For more information, please call 203-245-4567 or visit www.madisoncthistorical.org.
The Frederick Lee Lecture Series is made possible by a grant from the Connecticut Humanities and is co-sponsored by the Madison Beach and Recreation Department.
