For the Sake of the Country: Female Spies in the Civil War

The Scranton Memorial Library celebrates Women’s History Month with historian and author Matthew Bartlett discussing the little-known role of female spies in the Civil War.  What do you think of when asked what contributions women made to the American Civil War? Would you answer nurse? Sanitation or Christian Commissions? Or would you think of women keeping the homestead together, darning socks for their loved ones? Did you know one of the most important contributions women made to the Civil War was as spies? Women often changed the course and outcomes of battles with the knowledge they procured.  Listen to the stories of four incredible women who risked all for their countries. Their stories are so amazing, you'd think it was written for Hollywood!
