D-Day: 70 Years. A two-part lecture at the Scranton Library, Madison

The Scranton
Memorial Library received a grant for $500 from Connecticut Humanities to
present two-part D-Day lecture series.  Part One on Tuesday, May 13th is entitled “Prelude to D-Day” and Part Two on May
20th is “D-Day: N-O-R-M-A-N-D-Y.”  Both lectures start at 2 PM.

The
lectures will be held in the library’s community room free of charge and open to
all.  Please register by calling (203)
245-7365 or visit scrantonlibrary.org.

This
two-part lecture series with Kelvin W. Cole will describe the perfect storm of
events that descended upon the Nazi's 'Fortress Europe' and resulted in the
Allied victory, with the collapse and German surrender eleven months later.
Kelvin will illustrate this talk with slides, including those from his trips abroad
to historical sites.  He has for 20 years
interviewed participants and witnesses both in the U.S. and abroad to enrich
his research.

Thanks
to the grant from Connecticut Humanities, we invite you to join us in
commemorating the coming 70th anniversary of this momentous event, and in
honoring the service of our veterans we as approach Memorial Day.
