Friday Night Magic With Matt Roberts
Thanks to the Polson School PTO, local families gathered earlier this month at the school for an evening of magical entertainment with Matt Roberts. Patch spoke with Roberts backstage before the show began.
"I got started with magic at the age of six, with a magic kit," Roberts explained. "I borrowed books from my local library and performed shows for my family and friends." He said his family frequented Fort Myers in Florida on vacation, where he discovered a magic shop. "The owner was a professional magician. I learned a lot from him."
When asked for advice to aspiring magicians, Roberts said, "Like anything else, you have to work at it. It takes a lot of practice. Read. Study hard. Start doing as many shows as you can." Roberts said performing at neighborhood birthday parties and shows for family and friends can be a great base for learning how to get comfortable in front of an audience.

In fact, Roberts performed at a birthday party for a member of the PTO and that initial contact led to his performing at Polson. Roberts' favorite trick is the Magic Table, shown in this article's featured video. Children and parents alike were invited to participate in the show, both on stage and from the audience.
