Editor's Note: With Valentine's Day drawing near, we're about to declare a winner! Voting ends Sunday, Feb. 12th at midnight!

JasmineAndChocolate is celebrating her first wedding anniversary in about two weeks, and she's desperate to know, what is the most romantic spot to have lunch or dinner in or around Madison? She just posted this message on Chowhound:

"Hello! I have searched the discussion boards and found only a very few mentions of great places to eat for a romantic meal in my area (Madison, CT). I should clarify that I'm not looking for someplace overly formal or that could be considered stuffy. Formal attire is ok, we just want to be relaxed and have a great meal. I'd really love to try some place new which is why I've turned to all of you here. I'm looking for some place somewhat near Madison, CT to go for a great lunch or dinner, with great staff, and great dessert options. We're open to different types of cuisine, but some comfort food is a plus. We want something special but comfortable and delicious."

Suggestions so far include , , and several other great restaurants near Madison, including Cafe Routier in Westbrook, Le Petit Cafe in Branford, and Foe in Branford. Another recommendation is Union League in New Haven, which is run by the same people as Bar Bouchee.

I'd agree with both Madison suggestions. I'm a huge fan of Bar Bouchee and have never had a bad meal at Perfect Parties. Both are elegant, not stuffy and, with the right crowd, lots of fun. Formal attire is fine, but definitely not required. I like the bar at , and would also include Tacuba in Branford for those who are looking for something fun and different.

On Facebook, Nancy R. Hoag suggested " romance package!!!" Dyan Salemi agreed, also on Facebook, "The Scranton Seahorse Inn does it for me!!!" she said.

The inn is another great idea. It has a Chocolate Lovers Package that starts at $170 that says it's for "lovestruck and chocolate lovers alike," that includes "a one night stay in one of our romantic guest rooms where a handful of chocolate surprises await you ... The chocolate doesn’t stop there! Enjoy some chocolate specialties during breakfast in the morning." There also is the Madison Dinner Date package that starts at $500. For more information about their packages, you can check out their website.

What are your suggestions? Let us know!

Jasmine, my hubby's and my favorite place to go is Cafe Routier. Comfort food? check. Deliciousness? check. lively? check. bring a sweater!

I love Routier. They have that cozy area off of the bar where you can sit on the couches. And their dining room is quite nice as well. They have some great standards, but also rotate specialties according to the season. Good suggestion.

Someone on Facebook just suggested the Scranton Seahorse Inn. That would include an overnight stay, and they have some great packages. I included some more details about that in the story and will check with the owner to see if they have any "Madison Date Specials" for this month.

I love River Tavern in Chester! Check out their website. Always farm fresh & new!

Ah yes, Jonathan Rapp, who also does the farm dinners at Barberry Farms in the summer. He is awesome. Never been to the restaurant. They sure make it sound romantic "Guests love to linger at our cozy tavern bar, at the outdoor cafe tables, or in the dining room looking into the open kitchen or out the stunning window-wall, thinly screened by bamboo, and overlooking the Pattaconk Brook." Not sure about that view of the ... brook, but the rest sounds nice ... http://www.rivertavernchester.net/River_Tavern/About_Us.html

Sorry, Madison restaurateurs. We've dined in all the top Madison restaurants, but definitely prefer Cafe Routier in Westbrook. Best food, service and decor for miles east of New Haven. No doubt about it.

My wife and I love great food, and will travel to enjoy it. Here is our list: Elizabeth's Cafe -- consistently excellent Ibiza in New Haven -- outstanding modern Spanish -- modern, not traditional Il Forno in Westbrook -- just a store front, but a visit to Italy, real Italian food Milagro in Stonington -- worth the trip for creative Spanish Matunuk Oyster House -- in RI -- worth the drive -- they raise their own oysters -- you will levitate and be spoiled forever le Petit Cafe in Branford -- you will think that Roy is someone's French grandma Pips at Copper Beaches -- almost always exceptional the Lobster Pound on a dock in Guilford -- BYOB for great lobster rolls -- summer -- this is the lobsterman and his wife I hope that we have helped some with our favorites. Pam, thanks for doing this. And thanks to all for your suggestions. We will retry River Cafe and Routier.

Those all look good. Forgot about Ibiza in New Haven, haven't been there for a while. It was terrific. And there are a few on your list I haven't tried but will put on my list of things to do. Thanks!

We love many of the local places mentioned, all great for special occasions, recently I was looking for a Restaurant with a fireplace we went to Griswold Inn in Essex got a table for 2 next to a working fireplace it was just what I was hoping for
Pem McNerney (Editor) January 08, 2012 at 05:33 PM
Great suggestion, Tom. A working fireplace is always a good idea when it comes to a romantic meal. Did you have dinner there? How was the food? I went there for a quick lunch recently and was very pleased with the service. Food was good.
John on Warpas Road January 08, 2012 at 11:27 PM
No doubt, Village Pizza. Nice Greek people.

Village Pizza? Romantic?!?!? Well, I do love their pizza. And the people there are very nice ...

Pem, we went for dinner and it was outstanding complemented by the perfect bottle of wine and a shared dessert.

Elizabeth's Cafe is our FAVORITE! I just love how cozy that place is! Great food ( i love the salmon ) nice servers and Beutiful flowers! Need I say more? See you there!

Elizabeths and bar bouchee have good food but the seating if very tight, it is easy to overhear conversations so i wouldn't consider them romantic. I love Cafe Routier and the Stone House in Guilford.
