Town Beaches Open! Not Happy With CL&P, National Guard Called In To Help And More

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson's Friday Irene update ...

Here are some updates on some key issues from First Selectman Fillmore McPherson as of 4 p.m. Friday.

Beaches – , , and the will be open during the day this Labor Day weekend. The Town crews have been working non-stop to make this happen. There is no power yet, there are no lifeguards, and we ask that you steer clear of marked hazard area. Watch out for debris that may come in with each tide.

Electric – Power has been restored to 29% of CL&P’s customers. I am not happy with this level of response and I have made my displeasure known up the line. Citizens have reported to me that they are now seeing a lot more trucks working in town.

National Guard – I have arranged with Guilford that we will have some National Guard units with power line crews working here in Madison starting tonight or tomorrow, under our direction.

Water – fill-up points are still open at Town Hall, Madison Hose, Tidewater Inn, and North Madison Fire house.

Showers – the YMCA’s in both Branford and Westbrook are allowing Madison residents to shower. The town gym also has limited availability from 7:30am until 1pm.

Also, there was a public information session at Daniel Hand High School Friday evening, attending by about 350 to 400 people. More about that in tomorrow's Patch.
