Chatfield, Hammo Welcome Swimmers
And, at Hammonasset, there are many other activities planned for today.
The swimming area at Chatfield Hollow State Park in nearby Killingworth, which had been closed since Tuesday, was reopened Friday, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
The DEEP says only Black Rock State Park in Watertown will remain closed this weekend. The DEEP says runoff from recent heavy rains caused bacteria levels to increase.
The campgrounds at Hammonasset are full until Sunday, according to the state park's Twitter feed, but spots are open after that. In addition to swimming in Long Island Sound, several activities are planned at the Nature Center including Nature Walk 9:30 a.m., Turtle Show 11:00 a.m., Beach Seining 12:00 a.m, Snake Show 3:00 p.m., and Touch Tank 4:00 p.m. A movie, Narnia 3, is planned for tonight in the ampitheatre at 8 p.m.
