Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain Headed Our Way

Goodbye moderate weather, a nasty mix will move into the area tonight.

 

The Wednesday morning commute could be a slippery one based on the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, which is calling for a "light chance" of rain and snow before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

That chance of precipation will ratchet up to 80-90 percent overnight, with the rain changing to sleet and then snow by morning. Temperatures will fall to a low of 31 and there will a light northeast wind.

Total accumulation is expected to be about a half inch in and around Madison, but the slippery mix could make for a tricky morning drive into work.

Any leftover precipitation tomorrow afternoon is expected to change back to rain as temperatures reach into the upper 30s.

The extended forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds through Monday, with temperatures in the 30s, and no storms on the horizon.

Here is the extended forecast for Madison:

  • Tonight: A chance of rain and sleet before 1am, then rain, snow, and sleet. Low around 31. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Wednesday: Rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 1pm, then a chance of rain. High near 39. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. West wind around 7 mph.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. West wind 7 to 15 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 15. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 40.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
  • M.L.King Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30.
  • Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13.
