Snow Possible; Penguin Plunge Rescheduled

More or less? Sooner or later? It depends ...

 

The National Weather Service says light snow may fall early Saturday, leaving a total of one to three inches in some areas. The service has issued a hazardous weather alert for New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties.

"Light snow is expected to fall before tapering off Saturday afternoon," the NWS said. "A total of one to three inches is expected to accumulate ... slippery conditions on the roads will be possible ... into early Saturday afternoon due to the falling snow."

The NWS said Friday that there was " ... still some forecast uncertainty ... a weaker or more offshore low track would hold snowfall amounts down ... a stronger or closer low track could bring more snow than forecast."

Organizers of the , originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11th, decided to postpone the event due to the forecast.

"The Special Olympics Connecticut Penguin Plunge in Madison at set for tomorrow has been rescheduled to next Saturday, Feb.18th due to the snowfall that is expected overnight and through the morning on Saturday, Feb. 11th," organizers said. "The decision to postpone the event was made to protect the safety and welfare of those who would be participating and traveling to the event in potentially dangerous conditions."

The Southern Connecticut Conference wrestling championships, originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, has also been moved, to Sunday, Feb. 12 at noon at the

The NWS forecast for North Madison, Killingworth, Durham and surrounding towns is as follows:

 Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming north between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow showers before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 19. North wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 31. Northwest wind between 15 and 17 mph.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of snow showers before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 13. West wind between 7 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind between 6 and 14 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Tuesday: A chance of snow showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 44.

 

The NWS forecast for the Madison shoreline and Clinton is as follows:

 Saturday: Snow likely before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow between 10am and 4pm, then a slight chance of snow after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 40. North wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow showers before 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 22. North wind between 11 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 33. Northwest wind around 17 mph.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of snow showers, mainly before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. West wind between 8 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. West wind between 8 and 14 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 44.
