Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For All Of Madison Wednesday Night

National Weather Service Says If You Can Hear Thunder, You Are Close Enough To Be Hit By Lightning, Move Indoors; Strong Thunderstorms Forecast For All Of New Haven County

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Madison and North Madison Wednesday night. In addition, all of southern New Haven county is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

"At 9:28 p.m. EDT, National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a developing line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size hail, and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the National Weather Service said. "Continuous cloud to ground lightning is also occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately! Lightning is one of nature's number one killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightining."

The National Weather Service said that some of these storms have a history of producing large hail. "Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure, and stay away from windows!"

The storms, as of 9:28 p.m., were located in the area of East Hampton, Cromwell, Wolcott, and Southbury, and in the area of Manchester, Newington, New Britain, Torrington, and New Milford. The storm is moving southeast at 40 mph, the National Weather Service said.

In addition to North Madison, locations in the warning include but are not limited to New Haven, Groton, Killingworth, Westbrook, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, North Branford, Mystic, Guilford, Clinton, and Branford.
