Essex Resident In Intensive Care Unit Following Rollover Accident on Route 80 In Madison Wednesday

Police said a car rolled over on Route 80 near Matteo Court Wednesday afternoon. Sara Dowie, 39, of Essex, the driver of the car, was ejected, they said, and was later transported to the hospital, where she is in the intensive care unit.

The accident occurred around 3:11 p.m. Wednesday.

Dowie was traveling east on Old Toll Road when her vehicle left the travel portion of the roadway and rolled over several times prior to coming to rest on the North East corner of Matteo Court, police said.  Dowie, the lone occupant, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency service units arrived on the scene and Dowie was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital to be treated for her injuries, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Old Toll Road was shut down for approximately two hours while police investigated the accident. No one else was injured in the accident. The accident is currently under investigation by the Madison Police Department Accident Investigation Unit.

Dowie is a licensed massage therapist with Shoreline Therapeutic Massage in Old Saybrook, according to her Facebook page.
