"It's heartbreaking to see the damage," she said. She added that the siding came off of her house during the windstorm overnight and that her neighborhood has been without power since 2 a.m., for 12 hours.

A reader also said downtown Madison, at first glance, did not seem to sustain as much damage as North Madison.

A reader said at the bottom of Toffee Lane, houses facing directly on to Long Island Sound were flooded with water. She said the first floor was filled with water, and the water was leaking out the sides and windows and that the seawall was destroyed. Another house lost both porches off the side facing the sound.

A reader reported in via text message at 2 p.m. that Surf Club Road was completely flooded. "People are walking it, and are waist deep. Crazy!" She said the Boston Post Road at East River was completely flooded. "Water completely flowing over the road, impassable. East River and the marsh on the other side of the road are merged into one body of water."

Readers are also reporting at Lantern Hill, a huge tree is blocking the road; Island Avenue is impassable due to trees and wires down and that big pine trees at Island Avenue School are down as well.

Earlier Sunday:

A Patch reader reports on Facebook that a tree fell near the town green, breaking a gas line, so they have been evacuated to a nearby church "with my kids, two cats, my mom's two cats, and her dog. A tree fell while we were walking there right ..."

Readers on Patch, Facebook, and Twitter are reporting:

  • On Warpas Road, multiple trees are down, and the same it true throughout the rest of town.
  • On Taylor Avenue, a large tree limb fell near the south end of the street, crushing a brand new, recently installed fence, and blocking the street, but no injuries were reported from that incident.
  • Also on Taylor Avenue, the south end of the street is flooded up to 127 Taylor Avenue.
  • Near Blakeman and Kelsey, Long Island Sound has breached the march at Kelsey and Blakeman beach.
  • Lee Way had four feet of water, about 15 minutes before high tide.
  • "Down on Webster Pt. Watching surge 15 min to high tide and water just below street level for most part except lowest points. Street blocked by downed trees and power lines. Still safe."
  • Sarah Page Kyrcz reports: "Here in Lovers Lane we have had no power since 4:30 am. Not much damage. A very large branch fell AWAY from our house. For that we are thankful. This could have been much worse and who knows - they say it's not over yet. Everyone be safe ... "
  • On Twitter, a reader reported, "Can't get to our house. Water covering Middle Beach. Seaview Beach covered."
