Rain, Windy Weather Forecast For Friday

Gov. Malloy expresses concern about effects of wind on trees already damaged by October nor'easter.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy is cautioning residents to be aware that winds predicted for tomorrow could bring down damaged trees and limbs, already weak from the October nor’easter that impacted the state two weeks ago.

Winds of up to 15 to 30 mph are forecast for some parts of the state. The current National Weather Service forecast for Madison and Clinton is as follows:

  • Veterans Day: A slight chance of showers before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Breezy, with a northwest wind between 11 and 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then becoming clear, with a low around 36. West wind between 6 and 14 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 54. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 12 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph.

If the winds do pick up, residents should use caution around already damaged trees tomorrow, Gov. Dannel Malloy said.

“Normally, these types of winds would not be of concern, but with the condition of trees following the October snowstorm, they are likely to have some impact tomorrow and I’m urging residents to take precaution if they’re planning to be outside tomorrow.”

The Governor has directed the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security to discuss the forecast – and the planned response to any power outages that may occur – with both United Illuminating and Connecticut Light & Power and urge them to take the proper precautions.

“Now that power is back on across our state, we expect the utility companies will be extra vigilant about responding to any new outages, particularly as a number of residents just got the power back on recently,” Governor Malloy said in a prepared statement.

The weather forecast calls for westerly winds building from early morning Friday, peaking late in the afternoon, and then subsiding during the evening.
