Protestors Plan To Occupy Hartford Highway

Hartford Business Journal and ctnow.com reporting protest planned for Thursday afternoon in Hartford.

 

Both the Hartford Business Journal and ctnow.com are reporting that "Occupy" protesters are planning to block a highway ramp in Hartford Thursday afternoon.

"We think it certainly is going to be a crowd that can't be missed," said organizer Matt O'Connor, communications director of the Service Employees International Union, Local 2001, in an article written by Christine Dempsey in ctnow.com. "Asked if members of the group, Connecticut Action Alliance for a Fair Economy, think they will be arrested, O'Connor said, "We're expecting it."

The Hartford Business Journal is advising commuters to plan alternate routes or expect delays.

"The on-ramp is adjacent to a small patch of city property bounded by Asylum Street, Farmington Avenue and Broad Street, where dozens of protesters tied to Occupy Wall Street have been in residence since late September," the article by Greg Seay in the Hartford Business Journal reports.

A series of "Occupy" events have taken place across the country and around the shoreline in recent weeks. After which owns it,

Occupy events also have been held in Branford, New London, , and many other Connecticut towns.  Protesters in New York City's Zuccotti Park were cleared out earlier this week by city officials who said they wanted to clean the park. Thursday, clashes with police continued and 75 protesters were arrested, The New York Times reports.
