The OccupyShorelineCT group rallied in Madison Saturday afternoon to promote social and economic equality and to stand in support for the Occupy Wall Street movement taking place 100 miles away.

Approximatey 70 to 100 people strode in and joined the group for the two-hour rally that incorporated a short march through downtown Madison to the and back while chanting "we are the 99 percent" and the voices of all who dared to stand in front of the microphone and offer words of support and encouragement or air grievences.

The crowd alternated between listening to whomever had the microphone and holding signs near the street and soliciting honks of agreement and solidarity from vehicles driving by.

Bill Brown, of Madison, said he has never been to an "Occupy" event but decided after seeing this one, he'll probably go to more.

"I was just curious to see how many people would show up," he said. "It's great."

Jeff Cohen, also of Madison, said he believes this movement is critical to broadening the country's political discourse and outlook.

"There's no leftist discourse in this country. There's nobody talking about socialism and social equity," he said. "We're just changing the point of view of the discussion."

The group intends to rally every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in various towns along the shoreline. Their next rally is on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Clinton.
