Madison Beach & Rec Announces 2011 Beach Pass Policy; Weekend Rates For Non-Residents Increase To Help Pay For Additional Demand For Resources

Beach & Recreation Commission Increases Weekend And Holiday Rate For Non-Residents To $40 Per Car, Up From $25 Per Car; Last Year It Was $25 Per Car Weekdays, Weekends, And Holidays; Rates For Residents Unchanged From Last Year

After Madison taxpayers expressed concern about the cost of supervising and cleaning up after non-residents who use the town beaches, the town's Beach & Recreation Commission has decided to increase the weekend rate for non-resident beach users.

The new rate is the $40 for non-residents for weekends and holidays. This new rate was implemented in part due to concerns expressed by taxpayers at a meeting held by the Beach & Recreation Commission earlier this year.

Those taxpayers said they were concerned that the influx of non-residents on weekends was creating an additional strain on town resources and that they would prefer rates be higher to compensate the town for the additional resources needed to supervise the additional people, and to clean up after them.
