Oh No, Hammo ...

Hammonasset Beach State Park, the state's largest state beach park, got clobbered. It needs a friend more than ever. Here's how you can help.

Hammonasset Beach State Park allowed some visitors in Tuesday, and the effects of Hurricane Irene were dramatic.

The boardwalk is damaged, grassy areas are under water, there is a massive amount of debris on the beach, the old asphalt sidewalk is destroyed, and there are uprooted trees in the water. The rock pier at Meigs Point appears to be gone. The sign on the nature center split in half.

This is a beach that is in need of a friend more than ever.
