Severe Storms Possible This Afternoon

Extremely high temperatures possible later this week, as well.

In addition to the severe storms that are expected later today, it looks like some intense heat will make its way to Madison by midweek. We can see some low-90s by Thursday and with dewpoints climbing into the low- to mid-70s, conditions will become quite uncomfortable.

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service's storm prediction center put Madison and all of southern Connecticut in a slight risk for severe weather. "Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats in the late afternoon and evening hours. Heavy rain is also possible leading to urban flooding of poor drainage and low-lying areas."

While the longer term forecast is often difficult to predict, the National Weather Service said there is a potential for heat indices between 100 and 105 degrees on Thursday, and 100 and 110 degrees on Friday.
