Madison School Cafeterias Inspected

Most Madison Schools Garner Perfect Score From Health Officials According To Information Gathered By Connecticut Health Investigative Team

The Connecticut Health I-Team recently compiled a database of school cafeteria inspections for 103 cities and towns across Connecticut, and several Madison schools were included.

Daniel Hand High School, Polson Middle School, Brown Middle School,  Ryerson Elementary School, Island Avenue Elementary School, and Jeffrey School (identified in the report as Jefferson School) were inspected for the report. In addition, The Grove School was inspected. The Country School and Our Lady of Mercy School were not inspected because they do not prepare food on site, according to the Madison Health Department.

The database, hosted by the New Haven Independent, is searchable by town. If you'd like to see how Madison schools did, click here.

Mac Walker from the Madison Health Department said public schools are considered class three kitchens and would be inspected three times a year if they were open the full year. "The Madison Health Department has inspected Madison schools two times per year for many years," he said. "We would go more often if we thought it necessary. However our school kitchens have a long history of excellent staff and management and so we put our efforts into work that better serves the public interest."

Walker also said the issue at Ryerson School, of the water heater, has since been resolved.
