Schools Closed. Wildcat Road Blocked Between Glenn Road And Madison Springs. Detour On Madison Springs.

Schools are closed due to the weather. Winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon Friday. Tractor trailer accident in Clinton closing I-95N as of 5:30 a.m., WTNH reports. Saturday and Sunday expected to be sunny.

Madison Public Schools are closed Friday.

Other schools that are closed include the Montessori School in Madison, the Country School in Madison, Temple Beth Tikvah Nursery School, the Williams School in New London, and Xavier High School in Middletown. The Madison School for Young Children is opening at 9 a.m.

WTNH is reporting that a tractor trailer has jackknifed on I-95 in Clinton, closing the northbound lane and affecting southbound traffic as well.

Madison's snow removal fleet is back up to full force after the Blizzard of 2013 in February caused several trucks to go out of commission, town officials said Thursday. Madison 911 Communications center says the town crews have been out all night plowing and sanding, but that roads in Madison are still very treacherous. There are a few reports of trees downs and wires down in the Wildcat Road area.

"Wildcat Road is completely blocked between Glenn Rd and Madison Springs. They should detour on Madison Springs," Madison 911 said Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon Friday for south centeral and southeastern Connecticut. More wet snow is expected with total snow accumulations of three to eight inches possible. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s, making driving difficult and at times treacherous. 

Light to moderate snow is expected to continue throughout Friday morning. Snow may be locally heavy at times, the NWS said. 

"Accumulating snow on roadways and low visibilities wil elad to difficult traveling conditions this morning," the NWS said Friday. "The heavy wet snow combined with gusty winds could lead to a few downed tree branches and power lines." 

North winds of about 10 to 20 mph are expected, along with gusts of up to 35 mph. 

"Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving," the NWS said. 

Here is the extended forecast for Madison: 

  • Friday: Snow before 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. High near 40. Breezy, with a north wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 23. North wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 44. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 23. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
  • Monday: A chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Monday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Tuesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.
