Madison Jr. Hose Co. No. 1 Coat Drive Kicks Off Dec. 4

This year, teaming up with RJ Cafe, Greg Dowler and friends hope to collect more coats than ever; By way of a thank you, the firehouse will be offering hot chocolate and popcorn at the kickoff Dec. 4th.

 

Greg Dowler is off to college with plans to study business adminstration, but he hasn't forgotten his hometown.

Back home for the holidays, the Daniel Hand High School graduate is once again organizing the Madison Jr. Hose Co. No. 1 Volunteer Firefighter Annual Winter Coat Drive at the at 665 Boston Post Road, in the center of the downtown.

Last year, Dowler and others working on the project collected more than 500 new and gently used coats that were distributed to those in need locally and around the state with the help of homeless shelters, food banks, and social service agencies.

His goal this year? He smiles when asked that.

"More than that," he said.

Madison Jr. Hose Co. No. 1 volunteeers will be receiving an assist this year from . Campbell plans to offer a call it "coats for coffee" promotion. Any one who donates a new or gently used coat will receive a free coffee beverage of their choice as a thank you from Kym and her staff at RJ Cafe.

The coats collected through the promotion will then be donated directly to the Madison Hose Co. No. 1 drive, which is right down the street from R. J. Julia.

Dowler says donation dates and times at the firehouse are as follows:

Dec. 4th, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to coincide with other taking place downtown. The firehouse plans to offer popcorn and other treats for people making donations.

Dec. 11th, 2011 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dec. 18, 2011 from 9 a.m. to noon.
