It's Beginning To Feel A Lot Like It's Time To Get Ready For Christmas

At the annual kick-off of Madison's holiday shopping season Thursday night, participation was double what it was last year; More events planned this weekend and in coming weeks.

The temperatures in Madison are finally dipping into the 30's and it's beginning to feel a little like the holiday season is really here. After a strong kick-off to the holiday shopping season over Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, some merchants downtown noticed a drop-off in business and wondered if the recent balmy weather was to blame.

But the shoppers turned out in force Thursday night for the annual kick-off of the Madison holiday shopping season. The Sip, Shop, And Save event, sponsored by the Madison Chamber of Commerce, started at Cafe Allegre, where participants signed up for drawings and received information about special sales and deals.

Some stopped for some sustenance at the Cafe Allegre bar, then headed out into the evening where they could enjoy a holiday exhibit at the Susan Powell Gallery, advice on fitness from the Pilates Barn, or specials on a wide range of goods, from books to monster hats.

And for those who wanted to help others, there was a toy drop off at Coldwell Banker, and an opportunity to drop off food for the Madison Food Pantry at William Raveis.
