25 Percent Of Town Without Power Mid-Morning Friday; Weather Contributing To Accidents, Downed Trees And Wires

CL&P is reporting that more than 2,000 customers are without power as of 10:30 a.m. in Madison, almost 25 percent of customers served in town.

A CL&P spokesman said he did not know the specific reason for the outage, other than that both Clinton and Madison have been particularly hard hit by the snowstorm. About 28 percent of Clinton is without power as of 10:30 a.m. 

The spokesman said the company has "quite a few trucks" in the area working on the problem.

Update as of 8:20 a.m. 

It appears from the CT DOT traffic cameras that traffic is flowing again on I-95 near Exit 62 in Madison. 

From Madison 911 Emergency Communications Center at 6:30 a.m.: 

Accident northbound 95 exit 64 in Clinton, road completely closed and traffic is now backed up several miles... all the way to exit 62 in Madison. Being reported that the highway may remain closed for a few more hours.

Madison 911 also reporting that Wildcat Road in Madison was completely blocked between Glenn Road and Madison Springs, and that drivers should detour on Madison Springs. 

The roads are being plowed and sanded, but the snow is still coming down in Madison. The National Weather Service says to use caution if you have to drive and Madison 911 warns that the roads remain treacherous, due to the continued snowfall and low temperatures.

CL&P is reporting about 500 customers without power in Madison, or about 5 percent of customers served in town, as of 7:30 a.m. 

A Madison Patch reader is reporting on Twitter that power is out on Horsepond Road near the town campus. A Madison Patch reader on Facebook is reporting a power outage on Five Fields Road, also close to town campus.
