Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Possible For Saturday Night, Sunday

Low pressure system could create lousy weather through early next week, National Weather Service says

The National Weather Service is predicting that a low pressure system will approach from the west Saturday night, passing over the region on Sunday, and that it could push a round of locally heavy rain into the area Saturday night.

"The track of the system would place areas north and west of New York City at the greatest risk of receiving this heavy rain," the National Weather Service said. "As the low reaches the area early Sunday morning and tracks eastward, heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop in the vicinity of the story."

Rainfall rates of one inch per hour or greater are possible, the NWS says. "In addiiton, the strongest thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts."
