Guilford Resident Injured In Madison Crash Succumbs To Injuries

Robert Lofberg, 55, Dies After A Tree Falls On His Truck During Torrential Downpour Thursday Afternoon

Robert Lofberg, 55, of Guilford, died Friday at Yale-New Haven Hospital after being taken there by ambulance Thursday after a tree fell on his car on the Boston Post Road near the intersection of Signal Hill Road Thursday during a torrential downpour that caused flooding on some area roadways.

Madison police reported Friday that a Toyota truck traveling eastbound on Route 1/Boston Post Road near Signal Hill Road at about 2:24 p.m. was hit by a falling tree during the torrential rain storm. Police said the operator was the sold occupant and had to be extricated from the truck by members of Madison Hose Co. No. 1.

"He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by Madison Ambulance.  Rt 1 was closed for approximately one hour while traffic was re-routed around the accident scene," Madison police said in a prepared statement. "State D.O.T. utilized chainsaws and a front loader to clear the roadway."

The New Haven Register reported Friday that the driver of the vehicle was Robert Lofberg, 55, of Guilford.

Yale-New Haven Hospital officials confirmed that Robert Lofberg was admitted to the hospital and later died from his injuries.
