First Selectman Fillmore McPherson "Disappointed" In CL&P Response

"We expected a lot better."

In an interview with Mark Davis from WTNH, First Selectman Fillmore McPherson expressed disappointment today about CL&P's response to Hurricane Irene. As of noon, he said, CL&P was reporting that 82 percent of the town was still without power.

"It's a lot worse [than some surrounding towns]," he told Davis. "We've been hanging there for quite some time. We are disappointed about that. We were told we had 17 crews in Madison, and we're getting that up to 40 today. But we expected a lot better.

Selectmen from Westbrook, Guilford, and Branford likewise expressed disappointment and anger about CL&P's response.

First Selectman Joseph Mazza from Guilford said his town was still about 75 percent without power. "We've been screaming, screaming, screaming to get some action," he said.

The officials also expressed concern about the inability of some residents to get telephone messages from the towns about critical emergency measures including evacuations and relief efforts. To find out more, see the video clip at WTNH.
