Essential Hurricane Irene Information From The Town Of Madison

This information is provided to town residents from the town of Madison on its website.

  • If you live in a low-lying area near the that normally floods, prepare now, to evacuate when told to
    • Evacuate when told to by State and/or local officials
    • Take medications, personal items, baby supplies, pets and pet supplies, change of clothes with you
  • Only call 911 with true emergencies; the Emergency Dispatchers do not know when the power will be restored, for instance. The general phone number for the Police Department is 203.245.2721.
  • In accordance with federal and state guidelines, if conditions are unsafe during the height of the storm, due to flying debris, etc., emergency responders, including Ambulance, Police, Fire and Public Works will not be able to safely respond to emergencies.  Please plan ahead, if possible.
  • Secure loose items around you home that could become flying hazards
  • Prepare to be without electrical power for several days.

All Town Beaches are closed to all activity effective Saturday, August 27, 2011. Staff will check people in and out to remove boats ONLY at the Surf Club until noon. Gates will be locked at East Wharf and Surf Club beaches.
