Does Route 1 Need More Sidewalks And Bike Paths? Tell Us What You Think!

People in Madison and Clinton are talking about the need for better pedestrian and bike paths in wake of tragic biking accident on Route 1.

Drivers, cyclists and walkers have many reasons to travel Route 1, which extends from the the Canadian border with Maine down to Key West in Florida. In Connecticut, the scenic route, which runs parallel to Interstate 95, is the location for many businesses and tourist destinations and has been the scene of many accidents involving cars, pedestrians and cyclists. Some of Route 1 has sidewalks and bike lanes but much of the heavily traversed road does not.

Recently, a Clinton woman was struck by a truck while cycling on Route 1 in Madison, and news of the accident aroused community feedback about the need for more sidewalks on Route 1.
