CT DEEP Presents Program On "Planting a Tea Garden"

Program will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will present a program on “Planting a Tea Garden” at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby.  Families and individuals are invited to attend this special “garden focused”  program that will educate participants on how to select and grow plants that will be used for tea throughout the summer, fall and winter months.  The process of starting this new garden bed from design to use will be explained.

Planning the garden with annual or perennial varieties, plant selection, pruning and preparation of fresh and dried plants for beverages and/or cooking will be discussed.

Samples of varieties of tea plants will be available for brewing and drinking and participants will be able to make their own tea bag blends.

The class will be taught by Susan Quincy, CT DEEP Environmental Educator.

This program is open to all ages and suggested for ages 7 and older.  Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

It is offered free of charge at the Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Avenue, Derby, Connecticut.  Donations are gratefully accepted.  For further information, directions and to register please phone the center at (203) 734-2513.
