Irene Update 11: CL&P Will Help With Individual House Hookups

Power restored to about 90 percent in town; 10 percent still without a week later; See details on individual residential reconnections. if your neighbors have power and you don't, call the CL&P hotline at 1-800-286-2000 now.

This is your First Selectman Fillmore McPherson with Irene update 11 as of 1pm Sunday. I said yesterday that we would not be making further calls, but I have some significant information to tell you.

Electric – Power has been restored to 90% of CL&P’s Madison customers, with work continuing on the remaining 10%. The reason that I am sending you this unplanned call is that CL&P has announced that they will be helping with individual house service entrances. Normally, it is the homeowner’s responsibility, using a qualified licensed electrician, to make the actual hookup. In other words, CL&P gets the line to the house, and the homeowner attaches the line and makes the electrical connections. Due to the severity of the storm, CL&P has hired a number of licensed electricians to do this work for free. If, however, repairs that fall beyond this simple hookup are found, it will be your responsibility to arrange for these repairs.

CL&P will be going to houses that they have identified as needing this single service help. Therefore it is important that if your neighbors have power and you don’t, that you call the CL&P hotline at 1-800-286-2000 to register as a possible service entrance problem. That is 1-800-286-2000.

When the authorized electrician shows up at your door, you will be asked to sign a restoration form on CL&P stationary. Among other things, this is a safeguard against unauthorized scams. If you have any doubts you can call a CL&P Clearing Desk at 1-888-544-4826, that is 1-888-544-4826 or our local police.

On other news:

Tree Debris – The “stump dump” at the Ridge road disposal site will be open tomorrow, Labor Day, from 6am to 6pm.

Water – Fill-up points are still open at Town Hall, Madison Hose, Tidewater Inn, and North Madison Fire house.

Again, unless something important comes up, this will be my last message to you.

Thank you and stay safe.
