A body was found at one of the camp sites at Rocky Neck State Park this morning. East Lyme Police Sgt. Joe San Juan said a walker discovered the body and reported it to police at around 9:50 a.m.

Although police are releasing few details at this point, the body is that of a white male. The person's age and identity have not yet been released.

San Juan couldn't say how long the body had been at the camp site, only that it was discovered this morning. It is not clear whether the person died as a result of an accident or if foul play was involved. The cause of death has not yet been officially determined.

The body was found at one of the four camp sites in the campground. The road to the campground is blocked off as usual, because the campground is not officially open yet, and the camp sites are fairly well off the beaten path.

State Police, East Lyme Police Department, and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Police are on the scene now. DEEP Police will be spearheading the investigation as they handle all investigations into incidents that happen at state parks.

Rocky Neck State Park remains open. A number of people were out walking their dogs and jogging as usual and, though some had noticed police cars driving through the park, there was no obvious crime tape or any other indication of police activity at the park.
